CHOCOLATE CAKE






CHOCOLATE CAKE

1  3/4 cups sugar
3/4 cup sour milk (sour cream) or coffee
3/4 cup shortening
1 t. vanilla
pinch of salt
2  1/2 cups flour
2 eggs, separated 
1/2 cup cocoa
1  1/2 t. soda mixed with 1/2 cup hot water 

Cream shortening and sugar; add beaten egg yolks, then sour cream or coffee.

Add flour which has been sifted 3 times.  

Beat well.

Add cocoa mixed with soda/hot water mixture.

Last, add stiffly beaten egg whites.

This makes three layers or a loaf.  Pour batter in waxed-paper lined and floured pans.

Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes.
