SPICED MOLASSES COOKIES

SPICED MOLASSES COOKIES

From Billie Reid

3 1/2 cups flour, sifted
1/2 t. baking powder
2 t. soda
1 1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. ginger
1/2 t. cinnamon
1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 cup molasses
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk or sour milk

Sift together the flour, baking powder, soda, salt, ginger and cinnamon.

Cream together the shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.

Add molasses and eggs; mix well.

Add flour mixture to creamed mixture, alternately with buttermilk or sour milk.

Mix until smooth.

Chill dough.

Roll out to 1/4" thickness on a floured board or pastry cloth.

Cut with a floured cookie cutter.

Bake on ungreased baking sheets at 375 for 12-15 minutes.

This makes about 6 dozen.

Tip:  Instead of chilling, dough may be dropped by spoon onto greased baking sheets.
